Why Choose Gali Services
Our Cultural Approach
At Gali Child and Family Services, our work is guided by the knowledge that children grow strong when they remain connected to family, culture, and community.
As a First Nations-led service, we recognise the importance of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander ways of knowing, being, and doing. Our practice respects the strength of kinship systems,
community relationships, and cultural identity in supporting the wellbeing of children and families.
We are committed to culturally safe practice that honours the voices of First Nations children, families, and communities. This means working in ways that are respectful, collaborative,
and grounded in an understanding of cultural obligations, family structures, and the ongoing impacts of historical and intergenerational trauma.
Our approach aligns with the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Child Placement Principle, which recognises that First Nations children have the right to grow up connected to their culture,
community, and Country. We support this through practice that prioritises prevention, partnership, participation, placement, and connection.
Through culturally informed assessment and engagement processes, we work alongside families and communities to ensure decisions about children are safe, respectful, and culturally grounded.
At the heart of our work is a simple belief:
Children are strongest when they know who they are, where they come from, and that they belong.
Our Values
At Gali Child and Family Services, our work is guided by values that reflect the strength of First Nations cultures and the importance of family, kinship, and community in raising strong children.
Connection
We recognise that children thrive when they remain connected to their family, culture, community, and Country. We support approaches that strengthen these connections and uphold children’s sense of belonging and identity.
Respect
We work respectfully with families, communities, and partner organisations, recognising the cultural knowledge, lived experience, and strengths that families bring.
Self-Determination
We support the rights of First Nations peoples to make decisions about matters affecting their children, families, and communities. Our work is guided by the voices of families and communities wherever possible.
Cultural Safety
Our practice is grounded in culturally safe engagement that acknowledges the impact of past and ongoing systems on First Nations families. We strive to ensure our work is respectful, inclusive, and culturally informed.
Accountability
We are committed to transparent, ethical, and evidence-informed practice that prioritises the safety, wellbeing, and best interests of children.
Our Services
Gali Child and Family Services provides independent, culturally safe child and family services that support safe engagement, informed decision-making, and the wellbeing of children and families.
Grounded in a strong First Nations perspective, our work recognises the importance of family, kinship, culture, and community in supporting children to grow strong in their identity and sense of belonging.
We approach every engagement with respect for the strengths of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families and the cultural systems that support children to thrive.
Our role is to provide independent and impartial services that sit alongside legal, statutory, and community systems. We do not determine outcomes, advocate for individual parties, or replace court or child protection processes. Instead, we contribute clear, balanced information that supports safe and informed decision-making in the best interests of children.
Gali Child and Family Services supports families across Brisbane through clearly defined services including:
• Foster Care Assessments
• Kinship Care Assessments
All Kinship Care Assessments at Gali are conducted by a First Nations practitioner.
Our practice is grounded in culturally safe, trauma-informed, and strengths-based approaches, recognising the lived experiences of families and the importance of preserving children’s connections to family, culture, and community. We are committed to accountability, transparency, and child-focused practice in all aspects of our work.

Our History
The name Gali comes from the Kamilaroi language, where it means water.
Our founder Robyn Bell is a proud Gamilaraay woman from North-West New South Wales, she has over fifteen years experience working in the child protection, family wellbeing and community mental health sectors.
As a First Nations owned and lead organisation, we acknowledge that water is life-giving and sustaining. It flows through Country, connecting people, communities, and generations. Just as water supports life and growth,
Gali Child and Family Services is grounded in supporting children and families to remain strong through connection to family, culture, community, and identity.
Our name reflects the belief that children thrive when they are surrounded by strong kinship networks, cultural knowledge, and supportive communities. Connection to culture and belonging are essential foundations for children to grow strong in who they are.
At Gali Child and Family Services, we walk alongside families and communities with respect, cultural understanding, and a shared commitment to ensuring children grow up safe, connected, and proud of their identity.
